The video Judging Back is a performative piece in which I stare back at the viewer with a scrutinizing gaze. My videos are often made with very subtle gestures and minimal editing. This intimate act of facing my audience, in essence, reverses the gaze. My facial expressions change as I put on different judgmental gestures that I have been directed towards me over the years – in the process questioning myself, my audience, the work, and confronting the mercurial quality of my own representation and understanding.
